American spy action movie Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One[a] was directed by Christopher McQuarrie in 2023, based on a script he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen.[7] It is the seventh movie in the Mission: Impossible film series and the follow-up to Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018). Along with an ensemble cast that includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, and Henry Czerny, Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt in the film. Hunt and his IMF team battle a formidable rogue AI named "the Entity" in the movie.

Cruise declared in January 2019 that McQuarrie would write and direct the next two Mission: Impossible movies, which would be filmed back-to-back. Not long after, news about returning and new cast members was released, and Lorne Balfe.
